PhotoTray is a desktop image tool for Windows that takes the opposite approach to the wave of browser-based editors: everything runs locally. Its AI upscaling uses Real-ESRGAN to enlarge soft or low-resolution images without the smeared look of a plain resize, and its background removal runs on the ISNet model, which handles hair and product edges better than older cutout methods. Because processing happens on your own machine, there are no upload queues, no file size caps, and no per-image credits — you point it at a folder and batch-process the lot. That local-first design is also the privacy story: images never leave your PC, and PhotoTray strips GPS and metadata, which matters for anyone handling client photos, product shots, or personal archives. Format support is modern — HEIC, WebP, and AVIF alongside the usual JPEG and PNG — so it slots into workflows that touch phones and the web. The honest limits: it's Windows-only, so Mac and Linux users are out; local processing speed depends on your hardware, and a large batch on an older GPU will take a while; and it's a utility, not a full editor — there's no retouching, layers, or color grading. If your bottleneck is resizing, enhancing, and cutting out images in bulk without handing files to a cloud service, it does that job well.
