How We Review AI Tools
Every tool on AI Tools Capital is tested by hand. Here's exactly how we evaluate, score, and rank the tools we recommend.
Our Testing Process
- 1
Sign Up & Onboard
We create an account on every tool we review — using the free tier first, then upgrading to paid plans when needed.
- 2
Run Real Tasks
No synthetic benchmarks. We write actual blog posts, generate real images, create actual voiceovers, and build real websites to see how each tool performs.
- 3
Compare Against Alternatives
We run the same task across competing tools in the same category to give you an apples-to-apples comparison.
- 4
Score & Rank
Each tool is scored on four weighted criteria (below) and ranked within its category.
- 5
Publish & Update
Reviews go live and are revisited regularly — especially when tools release major updates or change pricing.
Scoring Criteria
Features & Capabilities
30%We evaluate the range and quality of features, including unique capabilities that set a tool apart. We test core functionality, integrations, API access, and advanced options.
Ease of Use
25%We assess the signup process, interface design, and learning curve. Can a beginner produce good results in under 10 minutes? That matters.
Pricing & Value
25%We compare pricing tiers, free plans, and per-unit costs against competing tools. A tool with a generous free tier scores higher than one that locks basic features behind a paywall.
Support & Documentation
20%We check for live chat, email responsiveness, help center quality, and community resources. Good documentation can make or break a tool for new users.
Editorial Independence
Some links on our site are affiliate links — meaning we may earn a commission if you sign up through our link at no extra cost to you. This is how we keep the site running.
However, affiliate relationships never influence our ratings or rankings. Tools are ranked based on our testing results, not on who pays us. Many of our top-ranked tools have no affiliate program at all.

Update Policy
AI tools evolve quickly. A tool that was mediocre six months ago might be excellent today. That's why we:
- Re-test tools when they release major updates
- Update pricing information as plans change
- Re-rank categories when new competitors enter the market
- Display "Last Updated" dates so you know how fresh our information is
